THE CITY OF BOGOR

It is said that the word Bogor originally derived from a mispelled or improper pronounced Dutch word "Buitenzorg" which means free from any burden, is the name of a mansion in Kampoeng Barce for the Governor General BARON GUSTAAF VAN IMHOFF, the principal leader of the Dutch Indies in 1745.

Bogor lies closer to Jakarta, approximately 50 kilometers. The world famous Bogor Botanical Garden, borders the Palace grounds covering an area of 87 hectaares with thousands of species of plant life from all over the world, including towering ancient trees and world's largest flower, the RAFFLESIA. There are over 15,000 species of trees and plants, 400 varities of palms alone. The orchid house contain over 3000 orchid varieties.
